Workshop Time Line
Introduction and Group Consultation (30 minutes):
Discussion and evaluation of your textile waste. Explore the properties, fibre types, and various processes available to recycle these. Identify which new product or material you’d like to recycle your materials into. This could range from creating a new fashion or home interior item to a flexible bio-material.
Workshop (1 hour) :
Step 1: Prepare your textiles for recycling. Sort and disassemble.
Step 2: Shred. A member of the FibreLab team will demonstrate the shredding process and help you shred your prepared materials into a recycled fibre.
Step 3: We’ll work with you to create a comprehensive design plan to turn your recycled fibres into a) a fashion or interior object or b)a bio-material
Break Out Session (30 minutes):
Group 1 to explore materials and processes needed for turning your recycled fibres into a new fashion or interior object.
Group 2 to explore materials and processes needed for turning your recycled fibres into a flexible bio-material.
We’ll provide you with the tips and materials needed to start your reuse project at home, or you can join us at a follow-up workshop!
What to Bring & How to Prepare:
Please bring textiles that you want to shred and recycle into something new. Please avoid bringing anything that could be reused, repaired or resold in its current state.
You can bring one tote bag full of textiles, up to maximum of 5 kilos of material.
If you have fabric scissors and a reusable fabric face mask please bring these. We will be shredding and working with textiles which can produce dust, please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty as well as closed-toe shoes. Long hair and scarves should be easily tied back.
